Sports Babe Of The Day

Jenna Grim, Chicago Bandits Softball, @jengrim_20 on Twitter

Hold on to your hearts boys because this rocket is about to steal a few! Jenna Grim isn’t just a babe, she’s a STUD at home plate for the Chicago Bandits and a sweetheart to boot.

Jenna has been playing competitive softball since age 8 with a fantastic resume. She is a Loyola University alumni currently signed with the Chicago Bandits where she’s a force to be reckoned with. Last year, she assisted the team in winning the Cowles Cup with a batting average in the tournament of .292, a homerun and 3 RBI’s in 11 games.

While playing for Loyola Jenna was a two time Second Team All-Horizon League selection and the first player in Loyola’s history to be playing in the NPF. Grim is also ranked second on the Ramblers’ all-time home runs chart with 31 homeruns.  IMPRESSIVE!

When she’s not tearing the field up herself, Jenna can be found assisting young softball players in clinics for hitting and fielding. What a gem.

As if it wasn’t enough that this 23 year old, 6’0” Catcher from the Bandits is a total babe, she also has a twin sister named Jacqueline. Twinning! Obviously there’s much to be said about the girl who has captured our hearts but now, we’ll let Jenna do the talking.

2O QUESTIONS WITH JENNA GRIM:

(1.) How would you rate your career in softball so far? Do you have any future goals other than playing for the Bandits this year? So far it has been great! I have accomplished a lot of the goals I have set for myself and I am really looking forward to my second season with the Bandits and bringing home another Championship!! As far as other future goals, I am determined to travel the world.  It has always been a dream of mine to go on an African safari and back-packing through Ireland!

(2.) I read an article about you being a huge part in getting the Chicago Bandits to the Cowles Cup and National Pro Fastpitch Championship. How did it feel to win such a big tournament? It was AMAZING!! It was an incredible team win and it’s definitely a win I will never forget!

(3.) Do you have any pregrame rituals you absolutely must do before a game? Depending on the game time, I have to have lots of time before the game to get warmed up. I hate the feeling of being rushed. I like to take my time and get into my rhythm during warm-ups.

(4.) If you were on a deserted island and could bring 3 items, what would you bring? First, mint flavored floss. I have to make sure my teeth stay clean.  Second, definitely Chris Hemsworth! Who would want to be on a deserted island alone?? Not me.  Finally, my iPod! I can never go anywhere without my iPod.

(5.) At what age did you begin playing softball and what made you decide softball was the sport you wanted to play for the long run? I started playing competitive softball when I was 8.  My twin sister Jacqueline and I played basketball, volleyball, soccer and softball growing up, so being active was definitely our thing. But I think the biggest thing that made me choose softball was being outside. I love the summer and I love hot weather, so I knew softball was for me!

(6.) Your batting is extremely impressive, do you have any good tips for the batters that may struggle? Confidence is key! Hitting is fun and when it becomes mental, it is hard break out of it. Having a relaxed mindset, being confident, and trusting yourself in the box can make any hitter unstoppable!

(7.) Are you currently single or taken? I am currently single.

(8.) What would a guy have to do to win you over? He would definitely have to be a gentleman.  Also, if he’s genuine and passionate about things in life, it’s a big plus for me! :)

(9.) What is your idea of the PERFECT date? I love watching “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” and some of those dates are amazing! So the perfect date for me would be taking a helicopter to a beautiful spot on a mountain, with a gorgeous view. Candles and flowers would surround a nice dinner setting.  There would be champagne and strawberries. Finally ending the night with some cuddling.

(10.) If you could hangout with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? What would you do? Kate Middleton! I would love to spend the day shopping with her because I love everything she wears! She’s a true fashion icon.

(11.) Who is your favorite athlete and/or favorite sport (other than softball)? Favorite athlete is Michael Jordan and favorite sport is football.  Da Bears!!

(12.) If you weren’t playing softball right now, what would you want to be doing? I would want to be coaching at a collegiate level.

(13.) What do you do during the off season and where do you spend most of your time? Softball is the biggest thing in my life right now, so any chance I can give back and teach young girls the game, I do so.  All of my time is spent coaching, giving softball lessons and running camps.

(14.) In January, you were signed to a contract with the Chicago Bandits. Where were you when you received the offer and what was going through your mind at the time? I was at home and I was thrilled! The thing that went through my mind was “Training starts tomorrow!”

(15.) If we looked through your iPod what type of music would we find? What’s your most played song? My iPod is filled with R&B and Hip/Hop.  I am starting to get more and more country on there as the days go on, but as for the most played song its Adele “Rolling in the Deep.” I really like to think I sound like her when I sing it.

(16.) What is your greatest accomplishment to date? Being given the opportunity to play in the NPF.

(17.) Who is your biggest inspiration/role model? My mom. She’s my everything.

(18.) In three words, how would your friends/teammates describe you? Driven, Sweet, Outgoing

(19.) Who would you feature as Sports Babe of the Day? Joe Mauer. One word, stud! (We definitely agree.)

(20.) What do you want to be remembered for? As far as being an athlete: I want to be remembered for never giving up and never settling for less than my best. I am a driven person and I give everything I have no matter what I am doing! As a person; I would want people to always remember that I hold my faith in God close to me and that my family and friends are my world.

If you weren’t convinced before, we know you are now - Jenna’s a dime inside and out! We know you can’t get enough so be sure to give her a follow on Twitter at @jengrim_20 and click here to check out her player profile. And hey, Jenna? We likey you, babe.

Chucky Slick, The One and Only, @ChuckySlick on Twitter

Hold on to your seats ladies, this Sports Babe of the Day is one wild ride! Whether he is waiting for the puck to drop or dropping a few beats of his own, there is one thing for sure, your hearts will be dropping when you see, read, and listen to everything there is about Charles “CHUCKY SLICK” Baldwin. You may even recognize him as the “babely” background of Sports Babe of the Day. He is 5’10” and 170 pounds of pure nitro. Think you can handle him ladies? Well guess what: He is SINGLE and ready to mingle!

On the ice, he is one tough competitor. He has had his fair share of throwdowns and has the scars to prove it. But rest assured, his tough demeanor on ice definitely does not reflect his charisma and charm with the ladies. Not only will he fight for you, but he will also sweep you off your feet. There is more to him than hockey though, and he has the rhymes to prove it. You can hear his raps blasting from locker rooms coast to coast. Hello, superstar! Believe me, you will be seeing his name in lights. Better get your tickets now!

From being a hot hockey babe that shows no mercy on the ice to busting a rhyme to one of the best hockey tunes of all time, “Living The Dream (Junior Hockey Anthem)”, it would be hard for you not to swoon over this babe! Brace yourself ladies for this 20 question and answer as Chucky Slick reveals his romantic side.

20 QUESTIONS WITH CHUCKY SLICK

(1.) How old were you when you first laced up the skates and decided that a professional hockey player was what you wanted to be? Tell us about that decision. I’m not sure how old I was, but I do know I was wheeling broads and going bar down when I was still in diapers, like 2 or 3 years old.

(2.) What has been your proudest accomplishment to date? Probably the “Living the Dream (hockey anthem)” I put it on YouTube. She blew up over night. I made some money off it and got on TV. It’s overwhelming, but I’m pretty proud of myself for that.

(3.) We all know that you have had some serious flow. Tell us about your “Flow of the Month” award from Gongshow Hockey. Technically, my flow should not be spoken of, but I guess I’ll let it slide this time. Just kidding! It was cool to win that award. The Smokeshow Gongshow representative in Minnesota approached me, and she said I should submit a picture to Gongshow for the contest. I did, and it wasn’t even a question for the judges as to who had the loveliest locks.

(4.) How would you describe yourself in one word and why would you choose that word? GOOFY. I choose that because it’s simple, if you know me, you know I am goofy as ****!

(5.) What is your greatest fear? Losing loved ones and people close to me. RIP to my homeboy T SNOKE.

(6.) Describe your workout routine. Chat with the boys until coach comes around then I pretend to be working out. Once he walks away, it’s back to chatter and a few curls for the girls here and there.

(7.) How did you acquire the charming pen name of “Chucky Slick”? Well my first name is Chuck, and I’m slick with the ladies (well that’s the word on the streets at least).

(8.) Anyone who knows hockey knows of your musical finesse! Tell us about your music and how it has taken off. It’s overwhelming actually, I never thought of blowing up overnight and becoming a celebrity in the hockey world. I can’t go to any hockey rink without taking pictures or signing autographs. It’s crazy. I am truly blessed. I just want to say thanks to all you beauts out there slumpin’ my tunes and showing love! God bless you all.

(9.) What are your plans for the future? Go on tour next summer in Canada! Well, I’m going to be a millionaire whether it’s through hockey or music or any of my many backup plans. I’m going to get a fat house on the beach in San Diego, open up a Mexican food restaurant, marry the biggest smokeshow, and spend my days snapping necks and cashing checks.

(10.) Now the question that all the ladies are waiting breathlessly to know is “Are you single, dating, or totally taken?” I was taken for this past year, but it ended terribly and left me all screwed up. I’m back on the market as of 4 weeks ago. Feel free to holler (bombshells only)!

(11.) Who is you favorite NHL player and why? I like George Parros, because he has got great flow, a great muzzy, and he’s a straight up savage in general. Dustin Brown is cool too! LA KINGS all day.

(12.) Where do you get your Rap inspiration? We know it has been hockey, but do you have a certain artist that inspires you? I lived in Virginia for 5 years and had a lot of “ghetto” friends. They kind of got me into rap. Yes, I love Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle, Bone Thugs, Big L, Eazy e, Nas and basically any old school rap artist.

(13.) If you were stranded on a desert island what three items would you most want to have? Dip, beer, sour gummy worms (the blue and red ones only), and a beautiful woman. Can I bring 4? Is that cool with you? (Of course, you are Chucky Slick!)

(14.) What other sports are you into besides hockey? There are other sports besides hockey?

(15.) East Coast, West Coast which is the best coast and why? WEST COAST ALL DAY. Beautiful women, beautiful weather, beautiful beaches, great Mexican food, and everyone here is laid back and real.

(16.) Is there a soft side to Charles that we do not know about? Spill it! No, I go hard! I never thought I had a soft side until I fell for this girl. I fell pretty hard for that broad, and I was pretty soft at that point. I guess I don’t really have a soft side, unless it comes to love. (Oh my gosh! Hearts are dropping!)

(17.) What is your idea of a perfect date? Spend the day at the beach, get Mexican food, take her to an NHL game, and then take her back to my house. ;)

(18.) How does it feel to be the twitter background of Sports Babe Of The Day? It feels like heaven actually…erotic.

(19.) How would you like to be remembered when it is all said and done? Not as a celebrity, not as “the man”, but just as a good person with a kind heart.

(20.) Who would you recommend to be the next Sports Babe Of The Day? My teammate/rap partner Evan Johnston…huge beaut, follow him: @BigJohnston14

Dan Venet, Hot Fan of the Week, @Venet_30 on Twitter

You’ve been waiting for a while for another male Hot Fan of the Week and as you can see from the pictures above, we’ve found him! Meet the man of your dreams: he’s funny, charming, and witty, and his name is Dan Venet. This eye-catching babe is one you won’t forget. Dan played hockey for Robert Morris and is currently a goalie coach for young goalies that want to develop hockey careers. How adorable! He also has a heart of gold and is the the mystery man that sent the email to our Creator, Missy Deyo, about how awesome Steven Oleksy is. What a sweetheart! Did I mention this gem is single? If his looks aren’t convincing enough, his personality certainly is! Let’s get to know him a little better in:

(1.) Where are you from and how old are you? I am from Warren, Michigan but currently I am in Naperville, IL. I recently celebrated the quarter century mark. Pretty exciting if you ask me.

(2.) What do you do for a living? I work full time at a hockey equipment supplier in Naperville and Geneva, IL. BRsport.com check us out! Secondly, I coach goalies for numerous youth associations. I believe coaching is the best way to stay in this game I have played and loved my entire life. It’s my way of giving back to what has given me so much.

(3.) Who are your favourite sports teams or athletes? Being from the Detroit area it goes without saying I love Detroit sports. Tigers, Red Wings and Lions proud supporter. My favorite athlete growing up was Steve Yzerman. He was a sensational hockey player and leader. My favorite athlete now would be Justin Verlander of the Tigers. It is remarkable how good he is at his position, watching him take over every game he pitches.

(4.) What is your favourite moment in sports? I have two favorite moments. My first moment was when I was named All-American two years ago. It was my senior year of college so it was awesome to go out with such an achievement and honor. The second moment came not too long after when I signed my first and only professional contract with Bloomington Blaze (CHL). One of the coolest things I have ever experienced. Just wish it could have lasted longer than it did.

(5.) Are you single, dating or locked down? I am single and ready to mingle. Call me maybe?

(6.) If you had a time machine to travel back in time, where would you go and why? I would go back to the 50’s and watch some old time hockey. I would love to see Gordie and the boys play together in real time.

(7.) Who would YOU like to see featured on SBOTD? Well since you took my first suggestion of Steven Oleksy let’s see if I can go 2 for 2. I’m picking Miami University of Ohio power forward Matt Tomassoni (@mattdingo27)

(8.) What do you want to be remembered for? I want to be remembered for the good things I have done, that I was an honest, hard-working person who didn’t take anything for granted. I want people to remember me for being someone they could rely on and trust with anything. I would like to thank my parents for raising me correctly with morals and having respect for myself and others.

If you like Dan as much as we do (and you’d be crazy not to), be sure to give this Hot Fan a follow on Twitter at @Venet_30 - you’ll be glad you did!

Miranda Furtado, Dose.ca Editor/CTV Correspondent, @mirandafurtado on Twitter

Writing about yourself is a weird task – especially for me, who by day, writes about and interviews some of the world’s biggest celebrities in fashion/style and entertainment for Postmedia Network — Canada’s largest newspaper company. By the time the weekend rolls around, you can catch me on CTV News Channel as an entertainment correspondent. Needless to say, I’m a busy girl.

So, you’re probably wondering, “What the eff this this girl doing writing for a sports blog?” Well, behind my curled hair and stilettos hides a sports freak. I grew up in the country and am a tomboy at heart (although you would never guess it if you saw me on the street…) By the age of 10, I owned my own dirt bike. Growing up, I played soccer for as long as I can remember, joined the high school hockey team and eventually moved into extreme sports (and yes, at one point, I had the blue hair to match.)

During my high school years, I fell in love with wakeboarding (wakeskating to be exact!) and snowboarding — eventually I ended up teaching at my local hill — which lasted for nearly five years before I dropped everything to move to Whistler. I’ve worked at some pretty cool places including SBC Media (Snowboard Canada), West 49 head-office and I even became the 2009 Face of the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival.

TWSSF (Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival) was where I realized my passion for broadcasting and was lucky enough to end up being hired by one of the best employers (Dose.ca). From here, I hope to continue to grow and build my resume in sports broadcasting and Sports Babe of the Day is the perfect outlet for that.

So, without further ado, here are a ton of random facts about me…

22 QUESTIONS WITH MIRANDA FURTADO:

(1.) In three words, how would your friends describe you? Driven. Loyal. Hilarious.

(2.) Who are your favourite athletes or sports teams to watch? I live super close to the Rogers Centre and the ACC. So, I pretty much go to any games that I can (Raptors, Leafs and Jays).  I also really like watching Miami Heat games. LeBron is the man — and the only dude that can pull off the neck beard. #FACT

(3.) Peanut butter: crunchy or smooth? Ha! Peanut butter isn’t really my thing, but I usually keep it in stock for when I’m dog sitting. Get your mind outta the gutter!

(4.) I love SBOTD but I pay my bills by: During the day I’m a journalist for Dose.ca! We’re part of Canada’s largest newspaper company (Postmedia Network). I focus on style/beauty and entertainment. On the weekends you can find me on-air for CTV News Channel. I report on the top entertainment stories of the week. All-in-all, I’m super blessed in my career and can’t wait to see where I go from here!

(5.) What’s in your DVD collection and/or what’s your favourite book? I’m not huge on DVD’s. I’m all about Rogers On Demand.

When it comes to books — there are too many to list (just ask anyone who has seen my book shelves!) If I had to pick just one (outside of my girly rom-com crap) it would have to be the autobiography by Slash. I had the chance to interview him for Dose – so, it was pretty epic reading about someone who is so legendary.  Basically – ANYTHING. EXCEPT. TWILIGHT.

(6.) Growing up, did you have a role model or someone who inspired you to be who you are? I would probably say my mom. She was a single mom and I was a bit of a terror growing up. I put her through the wringer, but she always kept her cool.

(7.) Who would you bring back from the dead and what would you say to them? Dead people scare me. I would tell them to back the eff off.

(8.) What song do you sing at karaoke - or would you sing if you had to? Dixie Chicks — Goodbye Earl. Unfortunately, there is video proof of this…and it’s not pretty!

(9.) If you won a million dollars in a lottery, what would you do with it? I would buy my mom a house and then I probably would buy a condo and a car (top picks: Range Rover, Mercedes Benz or the new Subaru BRZ). I’m also big on charity, so I would probably find a couple of good causes to support. Currently, I help out with Dog Guides, Operation Smile and I’m set to participate in the 100km charity walk for Oxfam.

I love what I do, so I don’t think that I’d be one of those people to just get up and quit their job. (Hmmm…that was a pretty boring answer, wasn’t it?)

(10.) If you could interview any athlete, who would it be and why? I would have to say Sean Avery. I’m not a huge Rangers fan but on the personal side, I think it’s pretty effing cool that he pursues fashion outside of hockey and doesn’t let his sport define who he is. I think we would have a lot to chat about.

(11.) If you could be a fly on the wall in any sports team locker room, which one would it be and why? I would have to say the Leafs. It wasn’t the best season (obvs), and I would just like to hear the coaching staff go off after a bad game. Sorry, boys!

(12.) Is there a motto, saying or core truth you try to live by? I lost my grandma while I was in college and she was one of my biggest supporters. I have the saying “Any Dream Will Do” tattooed on my foot, in memory of her. Another biggy for me is “Be true” – also inked on my skin. Hmm, I see a trend here…

(13.) Are you single, dating, or locked down? What do you notice first about the opposite sex? Single. I date crazies — so, I’ve just stopped trying. I’m using my free time to focus on myself and achieve my own goals (hence writing for this blog) – that’s not to say that I’m not open to the idea of it, I just don’t care to put the effort in to look right now.

First thing I notice? Hmmm…I’m a big sucker for a great smile (cliché?) I like a guy that’s a little rough on the outside – so, a little bit of *well-maintained* scruff is great (think Blake Shelton or Zac Efron!)  I also think that passion is a really sexy trait. I’m super driven — I could never date any guy that acted like a housewife.

(14.) What’s your idea of the perfect date? Something fun, active and preferably outdoors! Guys get bonus points with me for thinking outside of the box!

(15.) What has been your proudest accomplishment to date and what are your goals for the future? I’ve had a lot of accomplishments and I’m super proud of all of them. I actually just finished writing part of a book (which in itself makes me proud) all about overcoming difficult situations in life — so, if you want to know more, pick it up in the fall!

For the future, I want to continue to do broadcasting. I’m so lucky right now that I get to do journalism while gaining experience in broadcasting — at Dose.ca and CTV — but ideally, I would love to go into sports broadcasting.

(16.) Name something you do when you’re alone that you wouldn’t do in front of others?

HA! When I’m stressed out I blare the music, close the blinds and dance around in my undies a la Bridget Jones style. (Wow, I can’t believe I just admitted to that!)

(17.) What are your three biggest pet peeves?

1. Manners! Where have they gone?!

2. Poor “sandwich artists” at Subway (seriously, do NOT get me started on this…)

3. Being stuck behind a slow walker

(18.) If you had a round trip ticket to any destination in the world, where would you go and why? I love travelling and exploring. I’ve been to a lot of places, but I’m DYING to take a trip to Africa and go on a safari — and I mean like the whole nine yards — camping out in tents near lions and tigers (and bears — oh my!)

(19.) What advice would you give to your 16 year old self? Blue hair will be cool one day; you’re just ahead of your time.

(20.) What’s your most memorable moment as a sports fan? I was the Face of the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival a few years ago, and I have to say that being up close, while the pros were throwing down in the super pipe, was pretty epic.

(21.) What are your guilty pleasures? I have so many. I’m kind of a nerd, but here are a few:

1. Bad 90’s music

2. Shoes & perfume

3. Sugar-Free Red Bull

4. Toby Keith (What, he DIDN’T write “Whiskey Girl” about me?!)

5. Jack Daniels

6. Sleeping

7. Ferrero Rocher’s and Pocky

8. Very Mary-Kate

9. Infomercials (I suggest Googling Kerney Thomas. “GAAAWWWWWWD!”)

(22.) What do you want to be remembered for? Being awesome.

Note from the Creator, Missy Deyo: Miranda is extreme in every way - from her choice of sports to her talent for writing and broadcasting to her kind heart and sense of humor. Tessa Bonhomme, Olympic Gold Medalist/Women’s Hockey, @tessab25 on Twitter

First of all, I have to gush. When I tweeted about Tessa Bonhomme being Sports Babe of the Day, she actually tweeted me back and agreed to do an interview with us! Who knew all these gorgeous, successful women were sweet as pie to boot?!

A lot of fans requested her, and I had to agree that she was the perfect candidate for our site. As a hockey-loving female and as a Canadian, it is an honour to be featuring her and learning more about what makes this powerhouse of a woman who she is. After all, she did win the gold medal in Women’s Hockey for Canada at the 2010 Olympics, which is just one of her many accomplishments.

Tessa, who is 26 and plays defence, originally played for the Sudbury Lady Wolves in her hometown of Sudbury, Ontario. She remained there from 1998-2003 and was captain in her final season. Relentless in her pursuit of the sport she loved, she also played for LaSalle Secondary School during that same time from 1999-2003 where she was the leading scorer. That’s a lot of hockey!

As the blond beauty continued her education, she began playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2003/04 season where she racked up impressive stats. Tessa redshirted the 2005/06 season to go hard after her Olympic dreams by preparing with the Canadian Centralization Program. She missed the final cut for the Olympic roster in Torino 2006, but after many impressive victories in her career, found her way to the Vancouver Olympics in 2010 as part of Canada’s National Women’s Hockey team. I can only imagine what she must have felt as she scored Canada’s second goal in their first game of the tournament and ultimately went on to win the coveted gold medal.

Since then, Tessa, who clearly has a sense of humour, appeared on a special athletes-only episode of Wipeout Canada as well as Air Farce, a Canadian comedy show. Another impressive accomplishment was winning Battle Of The Blades in 2011 with partner David Pelletier. Wow! Somehow she manages to find time for it all and still has time to steal the hearts of almost all the men I know! Interesting factoid: Tessa’s uncle has played the keyboard for The Beach Boys since 1997!

Clearly we could go on and on forever about her many accomplishments, but let’s get to what you’re really here for:

20 Questions with Tessa Bonhomme

(1.) If you weren’t playing hockey for a living, what would you be doing? Probably pursuing my Master’s in Speech Language Pathology.

(2.) Do you have any unusual talents? I juggle… I usually put on little acts for teammates before games. Oh, I also have double jointed elbows (they bend the other way)…strange, but it’s a good conversation piece when things get quiet.

(3.) Growing up, did you have a role model or someone who inspired you to be who you are? I feel like I really lucked out in the family department. I grew up around so many strong, independent women and I didn’t realize how lucky I was until I became a young adult. During my early Hockey Canada years, I looked up to (and still do) Cassie Campbell @cassiecampbell and Vicky Sunohara.

(4.) Are you single, dating, or locked down? Not married, still shopping. :)

(5.) In 3 words, how would your teammates describe you? Oh gosh, I’ll have to text and ask them. I think they’d say fun-loving, a bit mischievous, and caring.

(6.) What was going through your mind when you received the gold medal for Women’s Hockey at the Olympics in 2010? My first thought after the buzzer went was hurry up and jump on the dog pile, but after that I was trying to find my family in the stands to share the moment with them. When the medal was put around my neck I couldn’t believe I had actually lived my dream. I still have a hard time believing it to this day!

(7.) You’re stranded on a deserted island. What 3 things do you have with you? A boat, a fully stocked bar, my family and closest friends (fam + friends count as 1)

(8.) What’s in your DVD collection? Mostly comedies, Dumb and Dumber, Anchorman, Wedding Crashers, Sweetest Thing, with a sprinkle of scary movies…I get a thrill out of scaring the **** out of myself but immediately regret it when it’s over.

(9.) Is there a motto, saying, or core truth you try to live by? Yeah I was visiting an old teammate Jen Botterill @jenbotterill and she had a saying written on a plaque that read, “What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail.” It made me realize how much we all live in fear of failing instead of simply enjoying and taking advantage of our experiences/opportunities.

(10.) If we looked in your fridge right now, what would we find? Just made prairie fire chili, so that, cooked chicken breasts, fruit, veggies, OJ, beer, redbull, and a lot of cheese.

(11.) If you could hang out with anyone living or dead, who would it be and what would you do? Prince Harry… (Hahaha! Tessa, we love this answer. And we agree.)

(12.) What songs get the most play on your iPod? I’m an easy listening kind of girl; I enjoy everything except for rap, so I usually start out with Sister Hazel or Tragically Hip or randomly let my iPod choose my playlist.

(13.) A lot of our readers have crushes on you. What’s your idea of the perfect date? I don’t really have an idea of the perfect date, as long as there is lots of laughter, a good conversation and a cold drink.

(14.) What has been the hardest part about pursuing hockey as a career? Learning to balance your time. As athletes we feel guilty about taking a day off to recover. And to take time for ourselves. I think a healthy balance of training and family/friends is imperative to be able to perform at your best!

(15.) Do you think there are fewer opportunities for a woman playing professional hockey as opposed to a man? I think we have a lot of opportunities playing hockey now. In any female sport actually. I think we’ve come a long way and can’t wait to see where we’ll be in 10 years.

(16.) How and where do you spend the off season? No such thing as an off season in hockey! Lol I usually take a couple weeks vacation then head back to the gym for the rest of the summer! I like to head home to Sudbury for some of it to visit family and spend some time on the lake I grew up on.

(17.) If you were an animal, what animal would you be? Some type of bird. A hawk probably.

(18.) What do you want to get out of 2012? I want 2012 to be a stress-free, family and friends filled year. I want hockey to continue to be my first love and I want Team Canada to be successful in World Championships in April.

(19.) Who would YOU feature as Sports Babe Of The Day? Mark Sanchez! Wouldn’t pick anyone else!

(20.) What do you want to be remembered for? I don’t really care if I’m remembered, as long as I continue being me.

Wow, what a woman! She’s had more success at age 26 than some have in an entire lifetime, but is grounded, family-oriented and has a sense of humour, which is perhaps the sexiest asset anyone can have. And you know, here at SBOTD we’re a sucker for a girl with beer in her fridge and her mind on the game. Sauce this girl a follow on twitter, at @tessab25 - you won’t regret it. And Tessa, babe, we salute you!

David Monsalve, Goalkeeper, FC Edmonton, @davidamonsalve on Twitter

Ever wonder why soccer is considered to be the most beautiful game in the world? Well ladies feast your eyes on David Monsalve, goalkeeper for FC Edmonton. I’m sure you have a better understanding now, just listen to the way that name rolls off your tongue! A native of North York, Ontario, David began his professional soccer career during the 2007 season with Toronto FC.

At just 23 years old, David holds the record for being the youngest goalkeeper to play an MLS game where his abilities continue to impress coaches and fans alike. From there he moved on to Europe where he played for FC Inter Turku, winning the 2009 Finnish Cup. From Europe back to Canada, David, wearing the number 22, is currently stopping goals and hearts with his skills and babely features for FC Edmonton.

When David isn’t busy on the field, he’s giving back to the community with his very own non-for-profit organization, Kick It Again. What’s that you ask? David, being the absolute sweetheart that he is founded a program dedicated to improving the lives of youth soccer players in communities across the nation. This project supports underprivileged youth, by providing them with an equal opportunity to experience the joys of participating in soccer. David wants us to know that YOU can help by donating both new and gently used soccer equipment. Be sure to follow @_KickItAgain for more information and ways that you can get involved.

Ahhh we just love a babe with a heart of gold. Doesn’t that make him even more desirable? Now I know what you’re really here for so let’s get to the important part.

(1.) If you weren’t playing soccer for a living, what would you be doing?

(3.) Growing up did you have a role model or someone you looked up too who inspired you to be who you are?

I think in life you come across a lot of people you admire and all for different reasons. (5.) Rumor has it you are the youngest goalkeeper to play a game in the MLS ever! Is this still true? How does that feel?

As far as I know it is still true. At the time I had no idea, it never crossed my mind that I would be breaking a record and I didn’t find out until after the game when I read my text messages and friends of mine told me they heard the announcers talking about it. It’s a good feeling to be apart of history in that way and if the record still remains, it will be 5 years in July that the record stands and that’s pretty cool.

(6.) In three words how would your teammates describe you?

Vocal

Passionate

Persistent

(7.) You previously played with FC Inter Turku. How does it feel to be back in Canada?

(8.) Are you single, dating, or locked down?

None of thee above

(9.) What has been your proudest accomplishment?

(16.) What advice would you give anyone with aspirations of playing in the MLS or any sport for that matter?

Work hard and be patient. I know it’s cliche but it’s the truth. Nothing comes easy and if it does it can go away just as fast. So work hard to get there and stay there. Good luck!

Amanda Santos, SBOTD Writer, @_xoxamanda on Twitter

Well, SBOTD fans it is time to get up close and personal with yours truly. Where to begin? Sports! I’ve been a sports fan for as long as I could remember. I spent years watching my dad coach baseball and countless Saturday nights watching hockey with him. As a baby my dad even use to dress me up in Blue Jays outfits. While he no longer dresses me, he did instill a love of sports that I am ever grateful for. But now that I’m older I’m even more grateful for the babes who play the game. Which leads me to where I am now, writing for SBOTD.

I live life in the fast lane, I’m always on the go but I couldn’t image my life being any different. I’m huge fitness enthusiast and a nutrition freak/ recent vegan. I value a healthy active lifestyle whether it’s working out in the gym, running, or hiking. I live for summer time, sunshine, warm nights and tan lines. I smile way too much and laugh probably more then I should. I’m only serious when I need to be, which isn’t too often. I’m really loud and I talk a lot, like a lot. I’m obsessed with country music, big trucks and cowboys. I’m happy girl and genuine sweetheart, I promise. I consider myself extremely blessed, and I’m truly thankful for everyone in my life, past, present and future.

23 QUESTIONS WITH AMANDA SANTOS

(1.)      In three words, how would your friends describe you?

Wild, optimist, funny

(2.) Who are your favourite athletes or sports teams to watch?

Well I’m from Toronto, so I have nothing but love for our teams here. There’s nothing like the fan base here! I’m proudly a crazy Blue Jays fan born and raised so I get super excited watching them take the field! I recently hopped on the NFL bandwagon and became a New York Giants fan (Yes, before they won the Superbowl!) I was obsessed with the show “Friday Night Lights” which is centered around football, so I thought why not start watching the real deal. It’s a really fun sport to watch, I really get into it!

(3.) Peanut butter: crunchy or smooth?

Neither! I’m a health freak. So only natural for me! It’s not smooth; it’s thicker and definitely not spreadable!

(4.) I love SBOTD but I pay my bills by:

Well, I’m still a student with high aspirations in Public Relations. But as of right now I’m a server and I love it! Not to mention I get to watch all sports all the time on the big screen, no big deal, just the perks of the job.

(5.) What’s in your DVD collection and/or what’s your favourite book?

Ok, I’m a huge movie buff! I watch movies all the time. I literally have everything from 300 to Finding Nemo and I love them all! I’m a big fan of comedies and chick flicks and I especially love anything with Vince Vaughn, Denzel Washington or Katherine Heigl. I hate scary movies though! I’ll have nightmares for days! I read the entire Twilight and Harry Potter series and I’ll just leave it at that!

(6.) Growing up, did you have a role model or someone who inspired you to be who you are?

Growing up, my family and I weren’t as close as we are now. But my best friend was always there for me. She’s my biggest fan and motivator and I’m really lucky to have her. Over the years we have become more like sisters and I trust her with everything. Every milestone in life has been accomplished with her there. 18 years and I’m surprisingly still not sick of her. I look forward to becoming crazy ladies in the nursing home with her. Now, I can’t imagine my life without her, I have no idea where I’d be. She’s a beautiful person inside and out and without a doubt my other half. I love you girl!

(7.) Who would you bring back from the dead and what would you say to them?

I’d bring back my little sister. I wouldn’t say anything at all, I would just watch her grow and mature into a beautiful young lady. That would be enough.

(8.) What song do you sing at karaoke - or would you sing if you had to?

This is a no brainer! Heyyyyy I just met you and this is crazy, so here’s my number so call me maybe?? I don’t know why, but this song just gets me fired up. It’s my go-to shower song, I think I’m pretty good. That’s all that matters right?

(9.) If you won a million dollars in a lottery, what would you do with it?

I would buy a cottage on a lake somewhere, to get away from the craziness of the city. I’m a summer baby, I live for summer and the outdoors and I’ve always wanted a cottage. Whatever was left over I’d give to my dad. He’s paying my way through school so he deserves it.

(10.) If you could interview any athlete, who would it be and why?

If I could interview anyone it would have to be The Great One, Wayne Gretzky. He’s a force on and off the ice, a true legend.

(11.) If you could be a fly on the wall in any sports team locker room, which one would it be and why?

Hahaha, oh boy. Well if I was a fly I would sure be a busy one because I’d be visiting a lot of sports teams. So. Many. Babes! Ahhh, the life of a fly. I’d start with the Jays though, I’d love to see how they get fired up before a game!

(12.) Is there a motto, saying or core truth you try to live by?

“How many times do you live?” You already know the answer so start living! Take chances, be random, say I love you, laugh, cry, work hard, apologize when you should, travel, do things that scare you, smile and smile a lot, breathe, enjoy! Life is beautiful, not easy but totally worth it. Everyday is a new opportunity; think of it as day one, a fresh start everyday. I’ve learned that life is truly too short to sweat the small stuff.

(13.) Are you single, dating, or locked down? What do you notice first about the opposite sex?

Single, dating, locked down, a little bit of each. The first thing I notice is their overall physical appearance. It may sound shallow, but I love a man who takes care of himself and takes pride in that. I’m a sucker for a beard and flow, there’s something really attractive about that look. I just melt!

(14.) What’s your idea of the perfect date?

Hmmmmm, a perfect date. Let’s see well I’m a really simple, fun-loving girl. Little things impress me. So be creative. Lets cook dinner together, or go for a drive in the country, something low key, where we could just talk and get to know each other. Or you could surprise me with Blue Jays tickets. Just saying…

(15.) What has been your proudest accomplishment to date and what are your goals for the future?

My absolute proudest accomplishment would have to be completing my degree in psychology. Five years of late nights, no sleep and stress has finally paid off. It is my goal to start a Post-Grad in Public Relations or Sports Marketing, I haven’t decided yet. In the mean time I want to travel to at least two different destinations a year, I literally want to see everything! I really want to learn how to surf, get my motorcycle license, sky dive, take a road trip across Canada and buy my own place. Not in that order though.  I can’t really tell you anymore then that because I don’t even know. Sometimes I think life can’t even keep up with me. My mind changes all the time, my life is so fast paced and I love it!

(16.) Name something you do when you’re alone that you wouldn’t do in front of others.

Well, since you asked. I dance in my underwear and pretend my brush is a microphone. I like to think I’m a really good singer. I also drink milk out of the carton (well, soymilk) andddd I talk to myself. THERE I said it.

(17.) What are your three biggest pet peeves?

I can’t stand people who think that life just happens to them. No one is going to show up at your door and throw success at you! You need to work hard for it! There are people who dream of what they want and then there are those who chase after what they want. Be a chaser in a world of dreamers. Another pet peeve I have, and its kind of silly is hiccups. They drive me bananas. Lastly, I can’t stand ignorant people. Ignorance is not bliss, I’m sorry

(18.) If you had a round trip ticket to any destination in the world, where would you go and why?

Europe! I come a Portuguese and Italian background and I would love to travel to both countries. Maybe I will, some day…

(19.) What advice would you give to your 16-year-old self?

Don’t wear your heart on your sleeve. He’s not worth your tears. Put a little more thought into what degree path you’re choosing. Do not buy a brand new car and keep working hard, it’ll pay off. I promise!

(20.) What’s your most memorable moment as a sports fan?

My most memorable moment in sports without a doubt was the men’s hockey final in the 2010 winter Olympics when Crosby scored the OT winner to win Gold for Canada. So much pride and excitement felt by the entire country that day! I think every Canadian knows what I’m talking about. Thinking about that day still gives me shivers.

(21.) What are your guilty pleasures?

Four words: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

(22.) Name five items you couldn’t live without.

My cell phone, Chapstick, nail polish, Uggs, and peanut butter. If that counts, and if it doesn’t then it should!

(23) What do you want to be remembered for?

A hard-working individual who embraced life. I’m a really happy person, I have a big heart and I’m always smiling or laughing. When I’m gone I hope that’s how people remember me.

Amanda is an absolute joy to talk to. She is so sweet, funny, and smart. It’s impossible to not be completely charmed by her! You should give her a follow at @_xoxamanda if you want to get in on what you’ve been missing! Thanks for everything you do with SBOTD, Amanda!

Stefan Legein, Manchester Monarchs, @legeeyfbaby on Twitter

Well, well, well; ladies, I’d like to introduce you to today’s Sports Babe Of The Day – adorable and down-to-earth, Stefan Legein from Oakville, Ontario. Stefan began his professional hockey career in 2008 by playing in the AHL. This 23 year old right winger currently plays hockey for the Manchester Monarchs and was traded from the Philadelphia Flyers to the LA Kings in 2011 for future considerations.

Not only is Stefan a great guy to talk to, he is funny and has a sleeve tattoo (how hot!) It would be clear from looking at his Twitter pictures that he also loves dogs (how cute!) Stefan has spent the majority of his professional career playing in the AHL, however; he also was selected to play in the 2007 CHL Top Prospects game and in the 2007 OHL all-star game, won the fastest skater competition at this game and represented Canada at the 2008 World Juniors where they brought home the gold medal (how babely is that?!)

If you can take your eyes off the pictures for a couple minutes, then please enjoy our…

22 QUESTIONS WITH STEFAN LEGEIN

1. At what age did you start playing hockey and when did you decide to pursue it professionally?

I started playing pretty much when every kid in Canada did, when I could hold my own weight up, and pretty much ever since I can remember I’ve wanted to turn it into a job.

2. Up until this point, what is your proudest achievement in hockey?
My proudest moment was definitely winning a WJC with Team Canada. It’s such a fun experience for kids. You’re lucky to get one shot at it, and for us to win was just a surreal experience.

3. How did it feel to represent your country and win the gold medal?
Like I said before, it’s such an honor to be selected for that team with such a high level of skilled young players all looking for spots on the team. It’s every Canadian kids dream to suit up for your country on Boxing Day and it remains such a big tradition in Canada so to be part of it was incredible.

4. How do you feel about LA’s run in the playoffs? Realistically, how far do you think they are going to go?
LA has such a strong team and they made some big trades to get good pieces to the puzzle so they can go as far as they want really. If they all show up every night, there’s no reason they can’t be the last team standing.

5. Out of all the cities that you have played in, what is your favourite arena?
My favorite rink I’ve played in was my junior rink in Niagara. It was a small building but we were a new team and the fans made it such a fun building, plus we had a good team so it was just an all-around fun year.

6. How and where do you spend the off season?
I spend my off season just outside of Toronto in a town called Oakville. I’m sure I spend it like every other player; working out, hanging with my buddies and hacking up golf courses.

7. Who was your favourite player growing up?
My favorite player was Doug Gilmour. He was just amazing to me; smaller guy, mixed it up scored, set guys up, just one of the all-time greatest.

8. Who has inspired you the most?
Obviously my parents have. They put all the time and money and they dealt with so much from seasons that didn’t go my way to times in my life where it seemed no one else believed in me so I owe it all to them.

9. What is your favourite pre-game meal/snack?
My favorite meal is probably chicken parm; it’s a classic in the hockey world, and my snack is a Snickers Bar and Vitamin Water when I get to the rink.

10. What’s your favourite junk food?
I’m a chip guy. I don’t know why but I can crush a whole bag of chips in about 3 minutes. That and sour keys. My grandma used to always have them and I’ll probably eat them as long as they keep making ‘em.

11. Do you prefer blondes, red heads or brunettes?
I’m a firm believer in “If ya look good ya look good,” so I don’t have a preference!

12. Who were your favourite teammates you played with who are now in the NHL?
I’ve played with a lot of guys who are currently playing in the NHL but I’ve got a special relationship with a few. Sam Gagner and I work out and skate through the summer. John Tavares; he grew up in the same town as me, also Stamkos and myself shared something special at World Juniors, lol.

13. Why did you retire and what motivated you to come back to the game?
Ah…I don’t answer the first question, but I came back because I missed the game. I got away from why I played so the time off got me back to that.

14. If you weren’t playing hockey professionally, what would you want to pursue as a career?
I really don’t know. I never thought about it but probably something in the game. I love equipment so I would really enjoy that and I hope I can do something like that when I can’t play anymore.

15. In your opinion, what most significant goal you’ve scored in your career?
The last goal I scored, because ya never know it could have been my last.

16. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
The place in the movie “The Beach” - same set up, same everything, heaven.

17. What’s the perfect off day look like?
Sitting on my couch doing absolutely nothing!

18. Are you single, dating or locked down?
Locked down, sorry ladies.

19. What do you want to get out of 2012?
Calder Cup ring; that’s the goal right now, oh and a new contract!

20. Is there a motto, saying or core truth you try to live by?
Nope never really had anything like that, I just do whatever it is that I’m doing.

21. What do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as a player, that’s it - if in 50 years someone brings up my name and they say that I made it.

22. Who would YOU feature as Sports Babe Of The Day?
I’m sure Taylor Swift has played sports before so 100 percent her!

We sure are jealous of Stefan’s lucky lady! Lucky for us, we’re still able to enjoy him as our Sports Babe of the Day. Thanks for the interview, babe!

Sarah Galik, Hot Fan of the Week, @sarahg113 on Twitter

HOLY HOT FAN OF THE WEEK is all I have to say about Sarah Gallik. Missy suggested to me that Sarah be a Hot Fan Of The Week and I couldn’t have agreed with her more!

This beauty played four years of volleyball while in college, played basketball and was a track and field athlete during high school and now is a volleyball coach for a high school girls’ team. Not only does Sarah spend her free time coaching teenagers, but she is also a student working towards her Master’s Degree and of course, stays babely when not coaching or being educated… Here is the interview I had with Sarah, and don’t forget to sauce her a follow on Twitter at @sarahg113.

1. Where are you from and how old are you?

I am 24 years old, and I am from the fabulous Cleveland, Ohio.

2. What do you do for a living?

I am finishing my Master’s in Occupational Therapy at Cleveland State University. I graduate in December of this year! I also work as a server at a delicious Italian restaurant, and I coach high school girls’ volleyball in the fall and spring.

3. Who are your favourite sports teams or athletes?

Well, since I am from Cleveland, I was born into a family with diehard Cleveland fans. So, I love the Browns, Indians, and Cavs. I also LOVE the Ohio State Buckeyes (in any sport)! Some of my favorite athletes are: Derrick Rose, Evan Turner, Blake Griffin (he has the BEST dunks), Drew Brees, and the Misty May/Kerri Walsh combo.

4. What’s your favourite moment in sports?

Well, since us Cleveland fans don’t have much in the success category, I am going to have to defer to The Buckeyes on this one!! :) My favorite moment in sports is when Ohio State football won the Fiesta Bowl National Championship in 2002. It was one of the best football games I have ever seen, and I remember running around my parents’ house screaming out the windows when they won in overtime.

5. Are you single, dating or married?

I am single :)

6. Who would YOU feature as Sports Babe of the Day?

I have a whole list, haha! I would definitely have to say Aaron Craft (OSU basketball player)…he has the cutest face and apparently he is super intelligent which I like! I also think that Misty May and Logan Tom are both super-hot women’s volleyball players and who doesn’t like those volleyball uniforms

We’d like to thank the beautiful Sarah Galik for her interview!
